There is a hot new growth industry: companies that buy bad debts for pennies on the dollar, report them as new debt on the credit bureau and try to squeeze you into paying them are in violation of Federal Law.  Know what you paying for, before you make arrangements on old debt.  There is a Statue of Limitations on all debt and it varies from state to state.
